Abstrakt:This thesis focuses on the analysis and visualisation of vertex quality in polygonal meshes. While traditional approaches often emphasise global mesh properties or face-based metrics, this work explores vertex-based quality evaluation and its potential for more detailed analysis. The main contribution is the design and implementation of a flexible method for computing vertex quality based on a combination of multiple geometric and topo- logical metrics, including a normal deviation metric that captures orientation inconsistencies between neighbouring vertices. The method supports different normalisation strategies as well as weighted combinations of selected metrics. In addition, optional neighbourhood-based processing is introduced to refine the computed values and reduce local noise. The proposed method was implemented as a plugin for the MeshLab software, allowing interactive experimentation with various parameter configurations. The plugin provides visualisation tools based on continuous colour mapping and supports histogram generation for analysing the distribution of computed values. The experimental evaluation was conducted on the Stanford Bunny and additional mesh models with diverse geometric properties. The results demonstrate that individual metrics capture only partial aspects of mesh quality, while their combination provides a more comprehensive representation. The method was also applied to guide and evaluate practical mesh processing operations, including selective remeshing and refinement.
